There are diseases you can bring with you when you are born, or pick up on the way or as a result of accidents. A prime example is Cerebral Palsy.

Cerebral Palsy is a motor disorder that usually appears by the age of three. Muscles cannot be made to do what they should. People who have CP often can’t let go on time and their movements are jerky instead of smooth. The earlier Bonnie Prudden Myotherapy® is applied, the better the results. BPMYO helps ease muscles that cannot ease themselves at any age.
What cases the spasticity connected with Cerebral Palsy? Trigger points, irritable spots in the muscle that cause it to contract.
The object of your work should be to improve range of motion and function. Follow with the exercises to music, because that seems to bypass the short-circuiting in the brain. If the condition is very bad and the child cannot help herself with exercise, then do all the baby exercises with her. New pathways will be found as the patterns take hold.
Corbett was one year old and so still she was like a small mummy. In fifteen minutes we were able to give her parents an idea of BPMYO, plus a map showing Corbett’s trigger points and the exercises she would need. A year later her parents brought her to our clinic. She had made wonderful progress and could now sit happily astride her mother’s hip. But could still not stand
alone, and when she did stand with help she was a tippy-toer. That means her heel cords were too tight to permit the foot to rest on the full sole. It took thirty minutes to get Corbett’s heels on the floor and teach the parents how to keep up the program.
Corbett hadn’t been able to use her hands; they were like stiff mittens. Another half hour and she would feed herself for the first time and even pick up an errant piece of spaghetti. With half an hour a day and her parents consistent trigger point and corrective exercise work Corbett was a different little girl within a week. See Baby Exercise here
The earlier you get after the trigger points (immediately please), the better the results will be. First, the body will be more relaxed, have better balance, and be better coordinated. Posture can be altered almost at once. BPMYO not only works against what the disease has already done, but it is a penetrative against further incursions by the disease. In adults it relieves pain.
Many years ago a young woman with Cerebral Palsy came to one of Bonnie’s five–day workshops and started in with the exercise program. Within two years she was so improved in strength, flexibility and coordination she could run as fast as anyone in the gym and was soon running the physical-fitness program at the state school for special needs in Laconia, NH. She did wonderful things for the residents. Things no one ever thought could be done. You can watch Paula’s story on our VLOG here.
